Alla fine dell’Ottocento, sulla scia del Grand Tour, il pittore Kristian Zahrtmann si era avventurato nell’Italia meno conosciuta, in Abruzzo, giungendo in un piccolo paese sulle montagne, Civita D’Antino, che divenne sede estiva della sua scuola d’arte. Dal rapporto di amicizia tra il maestro danese e la popolazione nacque una intensa stagione creativa che influenzò l’arte scandinava, culminando in una mostra che si tenne presso il Kunstforeningen a Copenahgen nel 1908.
L’autore attraverso testimonianze, immagini, documenti e riflessioni, tra passato e presente, apre una finestra su quella straordinaria stagione che ha rappresentato la scuola di Zahrtmann e l’arrivo dei pittori danesi nel piccolo paese di Civita D’Antino caduta nell’oblio dopo il terremoto del 1915.
Il libro anche con traduzione in inglese è una versione aggiornata (2021) con nuovi contenuti ed immagini del precedente L’italian dream di Kristian Zahrtmann.
Le opere dei pittori danesi si possono ammirare nell’Imago Museum a Pescara.

At the end of the 19th century, in the wake of the Grand Tour, the painter Kristian Zahrtmann ventured into lesser-known Italy, into Abruzzo, arriving in a small village in the mountains, Civita D’Antino, which became the summer home of his art school. From the friendship between the Danish master and the population an intense creative season was born that influenced Scandinavian art, culminating in an exhibition held at the Kunstforeningen in Copenahgen in 1908.
Through testimonies, images, documents and reflections, between past and present, the author opens a window on that extraordinary season that represented the Zahrtmann school and the arrival of Danish painters in the small town of Civita D’Antino that fell into oblivion after the earthquake of 1915.
The book, also with English translation, is an updated version (2021) with new content and images of the previous L’italian dream by Kristian Zahrtmann.
The works of the Danish painters can be admired in the Imago Museum in Pescara.
